Two questions this calculator answers

What will this cost later? Enter today’s price of something, a school fee, a car or a month of groceries, and see what the same thing will cost after the years you choose.

What will this money be worth later? Enter an amount of cash and see what it will buy in the future, counted in today’s rupees. This is the number to look at before leaving savings in a current account or under the mattress.

The inflation rate it uses

The default is the latest yearly figure from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, shown with its month under the calculator. The rate changes every month and has swung widely over the past few years, so try a few rates to see the range.

A worked example

At 10% inflation a year, something that costs Rs 100,000 today will cost about Rs 259,374 in 10 years. Turn it around: Rs 100,000 kept as cash for 10 years will buy what about Rs 38,554 buys today.

What to do with the answer

If your savings earn less than inflation, they lose buying power every year even though the balance goes up. The same applies to a committee (BC): the committee calculator shows whether your turn gains or loses value once inflation is counted. Compare the rate you earn on a savings account, a fund or a certificate with the inflation rate. The SIP calculator shows what regular investing could add up to, in today’s money.
